Mumia Off Death Row

Abu-Jamal, 58, will instead spend the rest of his life in prison. His writings and radio broadcasts from death row had put him at the center of an international debate over capital punishment.
Flanked by Officer Daniel Faulkner's widow, Philadelphia District Attorney Seth Williams announced his decision two days short of the 30th anniversary of the white policeman's killing...

Fantastic Blackness Art Exhibition
If you plan to be in So. Cal next February check out this unique art exhibition, entitled "Fantastic Blackness," curated by Dr. Adilifu Nama. Dr. Nama is the author of Super Black: American Pop Culture and Black Superheroes, definately worth adding to the collection. "Cover art imagery was executed by John Jennings, mixing classic Kirbyesque superhero archetypes with powerful negritude and pride."
A big nod to Reginald Hudlin over at HEF and Komplicated for sharing this.

Presenting Aesthetics 6250 A.U. Summer 2011 Special Edition
With the recent passing of three very talented and influential men in the fields of music, art and healing, Aesthetics 6250 A.U. is honored to dedicate an issue to them. This issue acknowledes the life achievements of the urban troubadour and modern day griot, Gil Scott Heron and the ecclectic Afrakan style of artist Twins Seven Seven. We also celebrate the life of Dr. Frank E. Wyatt whose untimely passing leaves a vacuum in the world of Afrakan holistic health.
We met Gil Scott Heron after a concert, Twins Seven Seven at a dinner affair and Dr. Wyatt was a regular source of health advice for years. In this issue we get to share our personal anecdotes. Join us in celebration and appreciation.

In Memory and Appreciation of...
This summer we said goodbye to two outstanding visionaries in the fields of visual art and music. May 27th we lost Gil Scott Heron followed by Prince Twins Seven-Seven on June 16th. Both of these artists touched on the cornerstone of Afrakan life. In addition, we lost a master practitioner of holistic health, Dr. Frank Wyatt, on June 21, 2011. Their contributions were unique and impactful, certain to leave a void that will not soon be filled.

Michigan law threatens Afrakan community
Courtesy April 25's episode of the Rachel Maddow Show...Michigan's emergency financial manager law grants its "overseer" the unilateral power to deconstruct the Afrakan (African American) community of Benton Harbor. This small community off the shores of Lake Michigan is the first town in Michigan to have its elected government effectively nullified. See this clip below for more details:

The Soundtrack of Aesthetics 6250 A.U.
There's something to be said when the visual arts are complimented by acoustic artistry. During the design process, we must have listened to the Sin and the Fear by Mangataot hourly for days, and every CD by Last Soul Descendents is a must for those into ambient moods and introspection. Aesthetics 6250 A.U. Spring 2011 edition was a labor of love, the intensity of which can be felt through the soundtrack that accompanied its creation. We hope you enjoy.
